Share your experience of sexual violence in healthcare
What do we mean when we say
- rape.
Nonconsensual penetration through physical force, manipulation, stress, or fear; the experience of sex as the unwanted physical, emotional, mental or spiritual violation of sexual boundaries. Keep in mind: penetration does not necessarily implies a penis but can also include objects or other body parts such as fingers.
- sexual assault.
Any unwanted physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual violation of sexual boundaries.
- sexual violence.
This is not used as a legal term but an umbrella term that means that someone forces or manipulates someone else into unwanted sexual activity without their consent.
- sexual assault.
Acts that are sexual in nature, from unwanted touching and kissing, to rubbing, groping or forcing the victim to touch the perpetrator in sexual ways.
- sexual harassment.
Unwanted sexual attention: unwanted touching, hugging, stroking, kissing, relentless pressure for dates or sexual behavior.
Bear in mind, these definitions can overlap.
