About the event
Hi everyone!
We are planning to go to the Women’s March this year and we hope a lot of you are too. If you are, we are organising a crafting afternoon to make our own signs and witches’ hats!
Why witches?
Being called a witch has often been an insult directed to those women who did not conform to the gendered, raced, sexed, classed expectations of that society. The ‘witch’ is a person that does not respond to rules of how a ‘woman’ ought to look, behave, dress, talk, know and can be a powerful ally in feminist struggles.
We at Wonda Women choose to reclaim, as our sisters have before us, the imagery of the witch as a symbol of resistance in the face of the capitalist patriarchy.
So, on the 8th March, much like the U.S.- based movement W.I.T.CH, we put on our witches hats and take the streets of Amsterdam, to stand against a capitalist patriarchal model that reinforces and deepens inequality between bodies, sexualities, genders, colours, nations, religions, and that plays a fundamental role in climate change and environmental inequality.
No worries if you are not the craftsy-type. It is going to be an informal afternoon where we can all express ourselves in our own way. We will take care of the materials, we only ask you to bring a small contribution of €3,- to cover the costs. You can pay at the location, please bring the exact amount because we might not have change. We are looking forward to it and hope you will join us for an afternoon of witch-crafting!
* Register for the event and bring €3,- in cash
* The event will be in English
* The event is open to all genders
