About the event

!!! Please note that our dinners are open to womxn only !!!

We are already back with a new dinner! After our last dinner with Celia, we will gather again to discuss the topic of gender, (neo)colonialism, and environmental inequality. This time, though, we are going to approach the topic from a different perspective and format.

With Celia we talked about activism, policy, and how personal choices are insufficient for change when structural organisation is not addressed.

The honorary guest for the upcoming dinner, Fernanda Franco, is a Mexican professional dancer and choreological scholar who focuses on traditional dances and rituals that preserve non-colonial ideas. Close to Fernanda’s way to experience life and work, we decided to get involved in a participative performance: we will discuss, discover, and share experiences related to gender, colonialism, and environmental justice while we engage with our bodies and emotions, and what is around us, beyond using only our mind!

Fernanda has been working, during the last months, with the Amsterdam-based artist collective Weaving Realities, with whom she has been working on a series of participative performances around our relationship with food, its production, and the environment. Previously, she focused on Mexican traditional and ancestral dances’ non-colonial relationships with the environment. Her work has focused in particular on the relationship with endangered species.

 What can you expect from the dinner? We will have an informal get together. We will talk about feminism, environmental inequality, climate justice and the effects of colonialism and climate change on indigenous communities. But we will also have informal discussions and maybe even share personal experiences. This time the dinner will have a slightly different format, because our honorary guest will do a participative dance performance where you have the total freedom to decide to which extent you want to participate in the performance.

 Do you have to be familiar with all these topics?

No, you don’t! The most important thing to keep in mind is that our dinners are a safer space and that we are respectful towards each other.

 What does Wonda Women do with the money?

Your ticket covers not only your food and drinks (incl. 21% VAT) but also those of the honorary guest as well as two other 'seats at the table'. Seats that will be given to those who are close to the topic and if they'd like and feel comfortable, share their insights.

Where will the dinner be?

The location is provided by Vereniging AANEEN and we are thankful they share their space with us! In an effort to be more ecologically sustainable, we ask you to bring your own mug/glass/cup. Cutlery, plates, and napkins are provided by Wonda Women and Vereniging AANEEN.

What will we eat?

The food we eat will be vegan, if you have any other dietary preferences send an e-mail to dinners@wondawomen.com

 How accessible is the event?
